File your California Statement of Information

California asks every LLC and corporation for this one, and the penalty for forgetting it is $250 plus suspension of the business. We prepare and file it for $50 flat, with the state's fee shown before you pay and passed through at cost.

A California Statement of Information costs $20 for an LLC, filed on Form LLC-12 within 90 days of registering and then every two years, and $25 for a stock corporation, filed on Form SI-550 every year in the anniversary month of registering. Both are paid to the California Secretary of State. FastBusinessFiling prepares and files it for a flat $50, so the total is $70 for an LLC and $75 for a corporation, with the state's fee passed through at cost. Missing the deadline draws a $250 Franchise Tax Board penalty and, after 60 days, suspension of the business. Fees verified with the California Secretary of State on August 4, 2026.

1. The details

California needs you to approve us first — watch for one email

Since 1 August 2026, California only shows the Statement of Information to filers the business has authorised. After you pay, we request access to your record and the Secretary of State emails whoever owns your bizfile account from bizfile@sos.ca.gov. Choose basic online access and we can file; that is all it lets us do.

We prepare your filing within one business day either way. The state clock starts when you approve that email, so approving it the day it arrives is the whole difference. If nobody has claimed the business on bizfile yet, tell us and we will file on paper instead.

2. Review and pay

What happens once you pay

  • Filed within one business day of your order
  • A specialist reads your order first. If anything looks wrong, we email you before filing, not after.
  • Rejected by the agency? We fix it and file again at no charge.
  • If we cannot get it filed at all, you get everything back, including the government fee.
  • Track it in your account with your email address. There is no password to invent.

State processing after that is the agency's queue, which runs from same day to a few weeks depending on where you are filing. We do not control it, so we do not promise a date for it.

Payment is handled by Stripe. Nothing is filed until payment clears, and government fees are refunded in full if we cannot file.

  • Filed within one business day of your order
  • California's fee itemised separately and passed through at cost
  • A specialist reads it before it goes; if something looks wrong we email you first
  • Rejected by the state? We fix it and file again at no charge

Filed in a day. One flat price. Nothing you didn't ask for.

  • Filed within one business day

One tier, one speed, every order. There is no rush fee here because there is no slow lane to buy your way out of.

  • A specialist reads every filing

Prepared and checked by someone who files these all day. If your name or address will not clear the state, you hear from us before it goes in.

  • Registered agent at $99, only if you want one

The lowest published rate of the five services we compare, sitting beside a free option to name yourself. Most people never need to buy it.

  • One price, and nothing starts on its own

$100 to form, $50 flat for every filing after. The only thing that can renew is a registered agent you chose, at the price you chose it for. No tiers, no trial that turns into a charge.

The approval email California now sends

This changed on 1 August 2026 and it catches people out, so it is worth reading before you order. California no longer lets anyone file a Statement of Information for a business unless that business has authorised them. The option is simply not shown otherwise.

In practice it is one email. Once you order, we request access to your record, and the California Secretary of State emails whoever owns your bizfile account from bizfile@sos.ca.gov asking whether to grant us access. Choose basic online access — that covers recurring filings like this one and nothing else — and we file. You can revoke it whenever you like.

We prepare your filing within one business day regardless. The state's clock only starts once you approve that email, so approving it the day it lands is the whole difference between fast and stuck. If nobody has claimed your business on bizfile yet, say so when you order and we will file on paper instead.

Common questions

$20 for an LLC and $25 for a stock corporation, paid to the California Secretary of State. Our fee to prepare and file it is $50 flat, so the total is $70 for an LLC and $75 for a corporation.

Corporations file every year, in the anniversary month of registering. LLCs file every two years, in the anniversary month. Either way the very first one is due within 90 days of registering, which catches out most new owners.

They are the same filing for different entities. LLC-12 is the LLC version and SI-550 is the stock corporation version. You pick your entity type in the order form and we file the right one.

The Secretary of State gives you 60 days' notice, then suspends the business. The Franchise Tax Board assesses a $250 penalty under Revenue and Taxation Code section 19141. A suspended business cannot legally do business or defend a lawsuit in California, so this is a cheap thing to keep current.

Yes, and this is new. Since 1 August 2026, California only shows the Statement of Information to filers the business has authorised. After you order, we request access to your record and the Secretary of State emails your bizfile account owner from bizfile@sos.ca.gov. Grant basic online access and we file. If nobody has claimed the business on bizfile yet, tell us and we file on paper instead.

No. The $800 minimum franchise tax goes to the Franchise Tax Board and is a separate payment on a separate schedule. The Statement of Information goes to the Secretary of State. Filing one does not settle the other.

You can, at https://www.sos.ca.gov/business-programs/business-entities/statements, and you would pay only the $20 or $25 state fee. Our $50 is for someone else doing it, checking it first, and tracking the deadline. We say so plainly because a service that hides the free option is not one worth buying.

Filing something else in California?

Filing it yourself instead

Perfectly reasonable, and it costs you only the state's $20 or $25. The form is short and the filing is online. Start at the Secretary of State. What you are buying from us is someone else remembering the deadline and checking the form before it goes.

FastBusinessFiling is a filing service, not a law firm or an accounting firm, and does not give legal or tax advice. Fees and deadlines above were verified with the California Secretary of State on August 4, 2026; the penalty figure is set by Revenue and Taxation Code section 19141.
